Our Teachers

  • Sofia Saenz

Sofia is 20 years old and got into Fiber Arts at a young age. Her great great great grandmother was an immigrant from Sweden who brought with her a spinning wheel and a loom which her husband had built for her. This spinning wheel and loom were passed down from generation to generation. Sofia loved watching her great grandma create string and weave with it on her loom. She taught her all about dyeing fibers, all the ins and outs of spinning the fibers, and turning those fibers into fabric. She also taught her the great skill of patience that this craft requires. When her grandma passed, she left Sofia her spinning wheel, and now Sofia’s husband is building her a loom of her own. Sofia’s great great great grandmother was a beautiful soul who left a legacy that touched so many lives. Sofia hopes to teach others this amazing art that fibers hold, and carry on the traditions and legacy passed on by her ancestors.
